Who Won MasterChef Season 16? Jake Kelley Takes the Global Gauntlet Title
Twenty home cooks, four continents and five months of Wednesdays came down to one profiterole.
The answer: Jake Kelley won MasterChef season 16, the Global Gauntlet edition, in Finale Part 2 on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The 24-year-old pharmacy technician from Alma, Mich., cooked for Mexico on Team Americas and leaves with the MasterChef trophy and $250,000. Heidi Muston and Peter Egede were the other two standing at the end.
Who won MasterChef season 16?
Jake Kelley. Gordon Ramsay read the name out in the last minutes of the hour, after the judges walked back along a pass holding three complete three-course menus and weighed them against each other.
Kelley is 24, works as a pharmacy technician in Michigan and came into the season representing Mexico — the cuisine and the culture both, which is the whole premise of this format. He told reporters afterwards it was the biggest achievement of his life, and that the win was the confirmation he had been waiting for that a hobby could become a career. He is currently working full time at a Detroit restaurant.

Where did Heidi Muston and Peter Egede finish?
Here we have to be careful. The episode itself named a champion and stopped there — no second and third were read out on air, which is normal for this show. Coverage afterwards split: some outlets listed Muston second and Egede third, at least one had it the other way round. Until FOX or the judges say so, the honest version is that both finished as runners-up, and anyone ranking them is filling in a blank the broadcast left empty.
What did the three finalists cook in the finale?
Part 2 had to clear two courses in an hour: the entrée that ran out of clock a week earlier, then dessert.

The dessert plate is where it turned. Ramsay went as far as calling Kelley's the best thing of its kind he had eaten across 16 seasons of the show — a line he does not hand out casually. Muston's mousse drew praise for pastry technique that read professional rather than home-kitchen, and Egede's coconut dessert tasted the way he had described it even though the presentation he had drawn in his head never quite arrived on the plate. FOX split the ending across two Wednesdays, which is why nobody was sent home the first night. Part 1 delivered the appetizer round — Peter's red snapper, Heidi's black cod, Jake's prawn-and-octopus taco — and then ran out of hour with the entrées still on the stove. Read the date column and the shape of the season shows up: five eliminations before the break, twelve after it. MasterChef went dark for six weeks after episode 8 while FOX cleared the decks for the 2026 World Cup, came back July 15, and from there it was a sprint. Production also moved to Toronto this year, and the cast was drawn in four regional groups — Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Americas — with Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Tiffany Derry judging.

Both finale parts are on Hulu the day after they air, and they stay there. Live, it was FOX at 8 p.m. ET and PT, 7 p.m. CT — broadcast, so an antenna or any package carrying your local FOX affiliate did the job.

FOX has not announced a season 17 premiere date or a casting window, so treat any date you see elsewhere as a guess. The competition calendar keeps moving regardless. Halloween Baking Championship is already running Mondays on Food Network, Hell's Kitchen season 25 premieres Sept. 24 on FOX with an all-under-25 cast, and the American window for The Great British Baking Show opens on Netflix this month.
