Halloween Baking Championship 2026 Guide: Season 12 Date, Judges and the Museum Twist

The gist

When does Halloween Baking Championship season 12 premiere?

Monday, Sept. 14, at 9 p.m. ET and PT, which is 8 p.m. in the Central and Mountain zones. The opener runs two hours rather than the usual one.

Halloween Wars takes the Sunday slot the night before, on Sept. 13. Together the two shows form the network's Halloween block, and this year they open on consecutive nights.

Who is hosting and judging?

John Henson is back as host, cast this season as the museum's curator. The judging panel is Stephanie Boswell, Aarti Sequeira and Zac Young.

Henson's framing does more work than usual here. Because the season is built around exhibits, he walks the bakers into each challenge as a tour rather than reading a brief at them.

What is the Museum of Unnatural History?

The season's set and its challenge engine. Food Network describes a grand foyer opening onto collections with names like Possessed Pests, Demon Masks and a Vault of Bones, each one seeding a bake.

It replaces the haunted-mansion conceit that closed out season 11 last October. Same idea, different architecture: a themed room per week, and a dessert that has to look like it belongs in it.

What happens in the premiere?

Two challenges. The first Haunted Heat asks the bakers for desserts honoring their "Best Halloween Ever," with $1,000 to the winner and safety for the top three.

Everyone left then bakes for their life on Hideous Mask Desserts, and one goes home. It is the standard structure of the franchise, compressed into a double-length hour so the field thins fast.

Halloween Baking Championship season 12: premieres Sept 14 at 9pm ET, 10 bakers, $25,000, host John Henson, judges Boswell Sequeira Young, streams next day on HBO Max
Everything you need before the two-hour premiere.

How long is each episode this season?

Not uniform, which is worth knowing if you set a recording. Listings have the first two weeks at two hours each, then a 90-minute episode, before the season settles into the regular hour.

Three supersized weeks in a row at the front of a season is unusual for this franchise, and it means roughly five and a half hours of competition before the schedule normalizes.

What is the Sunday lead-in?

Halloween Wars, back for a 16th season under a "Back from the Dead" banner, with returning all-star pumpkin carvers, cake artists and sugar masters. Jonathan Bennett hosts; Shinmin Li and Andrew Fuller judge, and the winning team takes $30,000.

Its premiere is supersized too, running two hours across two rounds. The first is a set of head-to-head battles, and the teams that lose those drop into a "Do or Die" showdown where one is eliminated on the spot.

Watching both is four hours of Halloween competition across Sunday and Monday, which is the heaviest the network's October block has opened in recent memory.

Where can you stream it?

Episodes go up on HBO Max the day after they air, per Food Network's own announcement. There is no same-night streaming option short of a live-TV package that carries the channel.

Our streaming guide lays out which bundles those are and what each one covers across the fall.

What is the prize?

$25,000 and the title, decided at the end of the run. The $1,000 side prize in the premiere's first challenge is separate and does not roll up into it.

What else is on that week?

Quite a lot, as it happens. MasterChef closes out its Global Gauntlet season on FOX with finale part two on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and Hell's Kitchen opens season 25 the following Thursday, Sept. 24.

The full picture is in our fall 2026 schedule, which lays the premieres out night by night.

FAQ

How many bakers compete? Ten, per Food Network's announcement.

Is this the same as Halloween Wars? No. Wars runs three-person teams of pumpkin carvers, sugar artists and cake makers for $30,000; this is solo bakers for $25,000.

What time is it in the Pacific zone? 9 p.m., because Food Network airs it at 9 ET/PT rather than shifting it.

Will there be a Kids edition this year? None has been announced alongside the season 12 dates.

Weekly eliminations post to Baking Championships as the season runs, and the rest of the network's fall competitions are tracked in Food Network Competitions. Ramsay's side of the schedule is covered in the Hell's Kitchen season 25 guide, and the equipment on these benches is broken down in Gear They Used.
