Is Halloween Baking Championship on tonight?

Only if tonight is a Monday. Season 12 runs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Food Network and nothing new airs on any other night — the block at the top of this page says which episode is next.

The first two weeks run two hours, not one. If you record, set the stop time to 11 rather than trusting the default.

Food Network runs the show at 9 in both coastal zones rather than delaying the West.

Who has been eliminated so far?

One name a week, from here to the $25,000. This is the running list; the baker table further down marks the same result against each name.

The blank row is not an oversight. Food Network does not put the elimination in its own episode listing, and the show is small enough that a same-night recap is not guaranteed — the week-one result reached print the following morning, not the same evening. We fill the row from the season's published results record and a second outlet, and not before both agree.

Episode 3 is the one to note if you are only half watching: it swaps the cash for a vacation, and it is also where the running time drops to 90 minutes.

Who are the 10 bakers on season 12?

Food Network posted the lineup ahead of the premiere. Here is everyone, with the job and hometown the network lists for each, plus where they stand after episode 1.

Sort it by background and the field tilts professional. Five hold pastry-chef titles, two are cake artists, and three run a home bakery or a dessert business, or bake alongside a day job.

South Carolina sent two bakers and is already down to one: Charleston's Kyle Caulkins was safe in week one, Greenville's Katie Shegda was not. The two Kyles, both pastry chefs, are both still in.

Who went home in the premiere?

Katie Shegda, the pastry chef from Greenville, S.C. Her stout spice cake masquerade mask came up short on spice in the Bake for Your Life round, and she was the first baker sent to the museum gift shop, which is this season's way of saying goodbye.

Who won the first challenge?

Marian Mulero. The Miami dessert-table owner took the Haunted Heat with a macadamia dacquoise built around a pina colada insert, coconut mousse and rum-soaked pineapple, and the $1,000 that comes with it. Judges Stephanie Boswell, Aarti Sequeira and Zac Young also put Justin Giordano and Kyle Caulkins in the top three, so all three sat out round two.

Three safe spots out of ten made that first round unusually valuable, and it showed in the second: seven bakers competing for six survivals is a thinner margin than this show usually opens with. Food Network's description of episode 2 confirms the count, putting nine bakers in front of the reanimated taxidermy in the Great Animal Hall.

Who is hosting and judging?

John Henson is back as host, cast this season as the museum's curator. Stephanie Boswell, Aarti Sequeira and Zac Young are the judges.

Henson's role does more work than usual here. Because each challenge is tied to an exhibit, he walks the bakers into it like a tour instead of just reading out a brief.

What is the Museum of Unnatural History?

The season's set, and what drives the challenges. Food Network describes a grand foyer that opens onto collections with names like Possessed Pests, Demon Masks and a Vault of Bones, and each one seeds a bake.

It's a fresh setting after season 11 wrapped last October. Same idea, new building: a themed room each week, and a dessert that has to look like it belongs there.

When does each episode air, and how long is it?

Not uniform, which matters if you record. Listings put the first two weeks at two hours, then a 90-minute episode, before the season drops to a regular hour.

Add it up and that's eight and a half hours over the first six Mondays. Anything past Oct. 19, including the finale date, isn't in listings yet.

Where can you stream it?

HBO Max, the day after each episode airs, per Food Network's own announcement. Watching live on Monday takes cable or a live-TV package that carries the channel.

What is the prize?

$25,000 and the champion title, decided at the end of the season. The premiere's $1,000 first-round prize was separate from that.

Is this the same show as Halloween Wars? No. Wars uses three-person teams of carvers, sugar artists and cake makers for $30,000. This one is solo bakers for $25,000.

Is there a Kids edition this year? Food Network hasn't announced one alongside season 12.
