MasterChef Results Sept. 9, 2026: Who Went Home in Finale Part 1?
- Nobody went home. Finale Part 1 ended without a cut — Heidi Muston, Jake Kelley and Peter Egede all carry into Part 2.
- Two of the three courses aired: appetizer and entrée. Dessert and the winner's name are next Wednesday.

Season 16 of MasterChef spent five months building a bracket around where people come from, and the payoff hour on Sept. 9 asked the last three cooks to plate that in three courses. FOX only aired two of them.
Who went home on MasterChef tonight?
No one. Episode 17 is the first half of a two-night finale, and the hour ran out in the middle of the entrée round with all three cooks still at their stations. Nothing was tallied on screen and no station went dark.
👉 If you tuned in expecting a third-place exit at 9 p.m., that is not how this finale is built. The only elimination left is the one that names a winner.
What happened in the appetizer round?
Sixty minutes, one plate each, judged by Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Tiffany Derry in front of a studio audience stocked with the cooks' families.

Two of those three plates were fish, which is a strange thing to see at a finale where the judges have spent four months rewarding risk. Heidi's was the one that drew the sharper notes: pretty, colourful, and in Bastianich's reading, buried under its own garnish.
How did the entrée round go?
Another sixty minutes, and this is where the hour was cut off. Jake went for duck with mole, an ambitious pairing that Derry immediately questioned when the plate reached the pass. Heidi cooked venison loin. Peter pulled his fillet in the last stretch, found it undercooked, and put it back in the oven with the clock running.
That is the image the episode closed on — a protein going back into heat with minutes left — and it is the reason Part 1 has no scoreboard. FOX is holding all three verdicts until the dessert round is done.

What is still undecided
- Dessert. One course, unaired, and the only one all three still have in front of them.
- Peter's entrée. Whether the fillet came back at temperature or came back grey is a Part 2 reveal.
- Jake's duck. Derry's question at the pass was about rendering and doneness, not the mole.
